President Putin would say that everything is all going to plan: well I wish I could say the same but it seems that I begin with an idea that three days later is nowhere near on point. Should I mind ? No, of course not because I don't want a plan. I do want some kind of progress but that is another matter. This painting is one of a number that I have been working on which I hope are more about the  surface of the painting than the attempt to tell something about what I am looking at. As I have said previously, there is not a photographic reference to be had here. Never the less I cannot separate the sense of the environment from the act of painting and I am aware of the, as I see it, danger of toggling between abstraction and representation.
