Landscape/skyscape

Image
I have been painting from my garden for years and it has been the source of great interest to me. I am sure that there is a lot still to draw from it but for the moment I have turned my attention to the sky. I don't intend to paint clouds as such but to use them as a resource for painting. The bottom of these three is the last of the current focus on landscape , the middle, a sense of something experienced and the top the start of skyscapes. As I often say to myself, I need to think about this. There are many painters of clouds: I'll see what happens.

December garden.

Garden landscape, December. oil on paper. 80x70cms  President Putin would say that everything is all going to plan: well I wish I could say the same but it seems that I begin with an idea that three days later is nowhere near on point. Should I mind ? No, of course not because I don't want a plan. I do want some kind of progress but that is another matter. This painting is one of a number that I have been working on which I hope are more about the  surface of the painting than the attempt to tell something about what I am looking at. As I have said previously, there is not a photographic reference to be had here. Never the less I cannot separate the sense of the environment from the act of painting and I am aware of the, as I see it, danger of toggling between abstraction and representation.
