November garden, or, jeux d'esprit.

oil on canvas.  120x120cms Jeux d'esprit, a view of my invention, rather than a sober translation of the garden seen.  Of course. This cannot be observed in any way that might be recorded but never the less it is an attempt to replicate the sense of my seeing, of my experiencing and in doing so to make of that experience a new one. To experience the painting is to enter into the unconscious.

Two garden paintings in October

oil on paper. 86x67cms oil on canvas. 160x114cms   The title for this post is just the title. I am always looking at the changing garden throughout the year but the relation to the thing seen is tenuous because it is the paint which intrigues me more. Paint is mixed on the surface of the painting support, or used straight from the tube, layer upon layer. It is difficult to not see these as landscapes but the terrain is in the paint or rather, that is the aim.
